Broadband! At last!

The wait is finally over! I have broadband! I ordered a brand new big screen TV last week, so this week I called Comcast to see if they had high-def service available in my area. Unfortunately, they do not yet, but they did tell me that they have high-speed Internet available! Needless to say, I placed the order for broadband right then and there. The cable guy that came over (Emanuel) told me they had it available at the beginning of the month, so I hadn't been missing out on it for too long.

For some reason, Emanuel couldn't provision the modem from my windoze box. I had everything open, but no matter what I did nothing seemed to work. So I took my old Linux box out of the closet, blew the dust off of it, hooked up keyboard, mouse, and monitor and went to work. It took a little while to get the ethernet adapters configured right, but eventually I was able to connect to Comcast's provisioning server and provision the modem. I was finally in business!

I'm not sure why they just don't provision the modems before they take them out to do the installations. It would save the techs a bit of time and would save them A LOT of time when they have problems with the host computer. Poor Emanuel was at my place for probably three hours before we finally got my modem online. I really do appreciate his patience. I'll have to give Comcast a call and let them know that he did an excellent job.

CHS 10-Year Reunion of the Class of '93

Well, I had my 10-year high school reunion yesterday. Hard to belive it's been that long. I'm just a little bit older, wiser, and fatter than I was back then. I had a really good time. I saw even more good old friends than I had expected to see. I was most surprised to see Rick Carr there, as he left the state and shipped off to Kentucky never to return to Lake City again. There were a few people I didn't get to see which I was hoping to see again; namely Lee and Ashley. I did recently get an email from Lee, though which was great. Ashley, if you're out there, send me an email. Hopefully we can catch up before the 20-year reunion in 2013.
